One-to-One Befriending

Our One-to-One Befriending service supports older adults who are experiencing loneliness or social isolation and would benefit from regular, friendly contact with a dedicated volunteer.

How It Works:

  1. Capacity & Initial Visit:

When a referral is made and our inclusion criteria are met, the person is placed on our list. A member of our team will schedule a home visit as soon as volunteer capacity becomes available. During this visit, we get to know their interests, answer any questions, and explain how befriending works in detail.

  2. Deciding to Move Forward:

Following the home visit, we will contact the person to confirm if they feel comfortable and would like to proceed with receiving regular visits from a volunteer.

  3. Matching:

If they wish to go ahead, we carefully pair them with a suitable volunteer befriender based on shared interests, personality, and location to build a meaningful, long-lasting friendship.

Group Befriending

We host several regular befriending groups across Motherwell, offering a warm and welcoming space for local older adults to gather, connect, and stay active in their community.

What Our Groups Offer:

  • Social Connection: A relaxed environment to meet local peers, share stories, and make new friends.

  • Community Activities: Opportunities to take part in fun group activities, outings, and local events.

  • Peer Support: A supportive network where members look out for one another, build confidence, and share experiences.
